Jal Cyclone Changed from Severe to Cyclonic Storm,Jal Latest Updates from IMD Chennai

The cyclonic storm, ‘JAL’ moved westwards and lay centered at 1430 hrs IST of today, the 7th November 2010, over southwest Bay of Bengal near lat.12.50N and long. 81.50E, about 150 km east-southeast of Chennai and 280 km south-southeast of Nellore, 450 km north of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka). It would move west-northwestwards, slightly weakened further and cross north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Chennai and Nellore as a cyclonic storm by today, the 7th November 2010 night.
Under its influence, rain/thundershower would occur at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls (≥25 cm) over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during next 24 hours and at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the same period.

Rain/thundershowers at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places would occur over South Interior and Coastal Karnataka during next 48 hours. Isolated extremely heavy falls would also occur over south Interior Karnataka during next 24 hours

Gale winds speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph would prevail along and off North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 12 hours and decrease gradually thereafter. Sea conditions will be high to very high along and off these coasts.
